The largest country in Africa
With an area of āāabout 2.38 million square kilometers, Algeria is the largest country on the African continent. A large part of it is taken up by the Sahara, the largest desert in the world. But Algeria offers much more than desert landscapes: the north of the country, along the Mediterranean coast, is fertile and is home to green valleys and the Tell Atlas Mountains, which form an attractive contrast to the barren beauty of the Sahara.

Algeria has been home to the Berbers, one of the oldest cultures in the world, for thousands of years. This indigenous population has preserved its language and customs for generations. A particular highlight is the ancient city of Djemila, which is characterized by Roman architecture and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a symbol of the fusion of Berber and Roman culture and a popular destination for history buffs.
